me and my new friend, cultural studies.

I’m actually pursuing a BA in cultural studies as a good base for an MA in linguistics. However, none of that means that I’m not interested in culture. I hope one day to see the world and take in all the culture my big head can hold. In the meantime, I took this class as a requirement, but more so as an introduction to the department, as I am and ex-theatre major.
There are the typical descriptions of culture, a way to categorize people, food, music, architecture, what have you. However, I usually use the word culture as a way to tie people together, usually in overlapping patterns. Here lies my difficulty with our first assignment. I feel that I belong to a few types of cultures, that represent different parts of me, I just don’t know which to choose-or if I should choose just one. I’m looking forward to studying the different theories and sciences behind cultural studies, and I also love readings by ethnographers and anthropologists, so I think this class will be a good fit.
